The Spunksters formed in September 2005 after the demise of a punk band called ‘The Outpatients’ in June of the same year who Mal played lead guitar for
Then Lenny The Spunksters front man came along and showed Mal his set list for a new punk band, Lenny had never sung before, but he had always been an enthusiastic follower of punk rock.
So Mal listened to his voice, realised he had the capability, spent some time playing guitar for Lenny to sing to, then set out to form the band
Mal was the most experienced of the two and with Lenny’s consent chose their drummer and bass player. The drummer was Dan from ‘1 man down’ and the bass player was big Jonno ( christened Jonny Contents) from ‘A Last Concern’ and The Spunksters were born.
They rehearsed for 3 weeks and played their first gig at the indoor Lionfest in November 2005, the crowd response was excellent.
Sadly both Dan and Jonno had commitments to their other bandsat the time so a new drummer and bassist were found in the form of utterly mad Andy Watson and big Jonny Fletch from Nitrous Oxide, this is the line up you can see today
The Spunksters have no axe to grind like most punk bands and are essentially a party punk band who really do have a talent for working up a crowd
They are funny, loud and very entertaining to say the least, check out the Lion gig list or the Rock of the North website to see where they are playing next.
